Salt Dog’s Best Vodka Cocktails
Also known as the elixir of life, vodka is a classic that forms the base for many of our favourite cocktails. From the sharp styling of the St. Tropez Sour to the savoury Bloody Mary, vodka is one of the most mixable spirits behind the Salt Dogs bar.
To find out what we’re mixing it with most, here’s the low-down on our best vodka cocktails. We’ve got Salty staples, like the 70s Pornstar, and classics, like the Espresso Martini. As a bar built by bartenders, our regulars enjoy only the best.
1. St Tropez Sour
INGREDIENTS:
- Vodka
- Raspberry
- Rhubarb
- Cranberry
- Egg whites
- Jam
Saying no to a fruity concoction like the St. Tropez Sour should be illegal. Just saying. It’s tropical sunshine in a glass with a sweet, slightly tangy profile (thanks to its fresh raspberries and jam).
To take the tart flavour up a notch, we also add Cranberry juice. Cranberry and rhubarb are a match made in heaven, so why not mix the two? Rhubarb puts the ‘sour’ in St. Tropez sour, with its sharp, almost earthy flavour.
Egg whites really bring out that signature Salty smoothness, and of course, there’d be no show without vodka. It’s an intense tipple that’ll keep you coming back for more.
2. 70s Pornstar
INGREDIENTS:
- Vodka
- Passion fruit
- Vanilla
- Pineapple
- Hardcore
Nothing says ‘mad Friday sesh’ like a classic 70s Pornstar. Playful and mischievous (just like you), this indulgent drink juggles tropical flavours and creamy vanilla for an all-around crowd-pleaser.
Boogie on down to the bar if you’re a fan of tangy passion fruit. Loved far and wide for its acidity, the 70s Pornstar is equally sweet, thanks to its vanilla flavouring. With Salt Dog’s secret ‘hardcore’ taste, this is a pornstar you’ll never forget.
Be sure to pair it with one of our dogs, whether it’s the chilli cheese or our flaming atomic hot dog.
3. Milk was a bad choice
INGREDIENTS:
- Vodka
- Strawberry
- Milk
- Ice cream
Milkshake lovers unit, our Milk was a bad choice cocktail is the perfect after-dinner sugar high. Our expert mixologists use vodka as a neutral base. Then, we add fresh strawberries or strawberry ice cream to bring that fruity sweetness to the forefront.
Thanks to the dairy elements, Milk is a bad choice is one of our thicker cocktails. It’s rich, tasty, and a full meal – one that should be enjoyed all week long.
4. Espresso Martini
INGREDIENTS:
- Vodka
- Coffee liqueur
- Sugar & espresso
Legend has it that Kate Moss invented this drink in the 2000s by requesting a cocktail that would both wake her up and f**k her up. And so, the bartender made an Espresso Martini!
Another classic vodka base, the spirit’s warmth is subtle enough to complement the bitterness of the espresso. A fresh brew is key to this cocktail’s intense coffee flavour.
But if you want to soften the coffee notes just a little, we’ll also add a simple syrup. Don’t say we don’t spoil you!
5. Bloody Mary
INGREDIENTS:
- Vodka
- SDS Spiced tomato mix
Built on a rich, spiced tomato base, the Bloody Mary is everyone’s favourite ‘pick-me’ drink.
Relish in the savoury goodness of our SDS spiced tomato mix, which is made up of horseradish, white pepper, and basil. It’s got an undeniable heat, with plenty of tanginess and umami to go around.
It’s great as an after-brunch special or a lunchtime treat: just don’t forget to order one of our complimentary dogs, like Salty’s classic with ketchup, mustard, and crispy onions.
6. French Martini
INGREDIENTS:
- Vodka
- Chambord
- Pineapple
Fancy a drink with a backbone? The French Martini is a frothy, silken masterpiece: we’re not joking. Vodka grounds the recipe with its neutral base, a given in most vodka-based cocktails.
Enter Chambord, a black raspberry liqueur that’s packed to the brim with velvety sweetness. Just when you think things are getting too rich, in comes the tangy pineapple juice! It cuts right through the Martini, making it even more moreish!
